TWO of the UK’s leading jazz singers will be holding a special Valentine’s Day performance of Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald classics at the Octagon Theatre, Yeovil, on Thursday, February 14.

Todd Gordon and Jacqui Dankworth will pay tribute to the legendary musicians by recreating hits including Lady Be Good, Witchcraft, Every Time We Say Goodbye and Mack The Knife.

The critically acclaimed pair have achieved worldwide success in their solo careers.

Todd has established himself as one of the country’s most popular entertainers, performing at prestigious venues such as London’s Pizza on the Park and The Plaza hotel in New York.

His audiences range from intimate jazz club settings to large-scale shows and he has twice compered and performed in ‘Jazz on a Summer’s Day’, the UK’s biggest jazz event.

He also opened for Dionne Warwick during her UK tour in 2003

Jacqui has toured with the Brodsky Quartet and recorded with them on their latest CD, alongside such guests as Sting, Elvis Costello, Bjork, Ian Shaw and Sir Paul McCartney.

She featured on Courtney Pine’s album Devotion and sang alongside him at the Royal Festival Hall, as part of the London Jazz Festival.

The multi-talented performer is also an actress and has performed in series of highly acclaimed roles on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £15 full price.

January 10th, 2008 Posted in Valentine's Day | No Comments »

It’s shaping up as the hottest raffle ticket for Valentine’s Day 2008. The Viper Club of America is raffling off a 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR in a for-members-only contest.

Tickets cost $125 each or three for $300. The total number of tickets being sold is limited to 2,750. Ticket sales end on January 31, with the winner being picked on February 14.

The Viper Club of America even suggests that there may be some “crazy collector out there willing to shell out $275,000 to buy up all the tickets.” The Viper SRT10 ACR has a $98,110 sticker price, including an $850 destination charge.

The Viper SRT10 ACR is the most expensive car in Chrysler’s stable and is due out in showrooms in the second quarter of 2008. It churns out 600 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque from an 8.4-liter V10.

The car being raffled off gets “every available ACR option,” including the Hard Core package, which includes a lap timer and other enhancements for the track.
